Cooperativa Maura Morales

2023-2022

Man is a homo hapticus. The sense of touch and feeling is the first of our senses. Even before we hear, smell and taste, we feel, we sense touch. EpicDermis is a border crossing, a dance across the skin. The skin is man’s largest organ – and at the same time his sensitive border between self and world. Every touch is as much a sign of affection as it is an indication of potential danger. Every touch tells a story about the familiar, about the foreign, tells a story in which the self seeks its place in the world. Every touch spells out a haptic vocabulary, full of power and longing, full of hurt and care. The “touchless society” (Elisabeth von Tadden) is entangled in a paradox: The longing for independence and unboundedness reflected in increasing singularisation turns into contactless isolation – the untouched human being as an isolated monad of a hypersensitive society. EpicDermis also speaks out against this horror, tells of the pleasurable exploration of the world, tells of the survival necessity of being touched.

Linearity |

Joshua Monten Company

2023

Like watching Sisyphus roll his rock up the mountain, “Linearity” shows the fascinatingly endless task of imposing straightness on an irregular world.  With rolls of bright adhesive tape, two ambitious and energetic dancers restructure their environment by creating straight lines in the unlikeliest of places.
It’s as if the audience were watching a construction site. The dancers perform daring feats of precision and thrilling symmetry. Bit by bit, recognizable forms emerge on the ground and in the air.
The movement language of “Linearity” is based on an extended dialogue between straight lines and luxurious curves and wiggles. How straight do we really want to be? How many curves can we handle? The choreography looks for answers to questions that end up being surprisingly personal.

Ifunamboli

2022

They were there... They pierced you with their slit eyes like two murderers, infiltrating in smoke what was going to be their dancing material. Half-wild creatures. Fierce but courteous in their excesses of rage. The primal instinct that they could not repress returned to the charge with arms and legs, it bent the joints, widened the indentations. Here, cockfights were organized and coups d’état were plotted. Although forced to be together, they were one and seemed to like it. But they weren't thinking with their heads. It was something else that was expressed, without effort.
Bodies stunned by their abilities to stretch, tense, tear themselves off the ground. Bodies as innocent as a child’s first steps. They surpassed everything.

Through the physical metaphor and images "On Mending" he explores three main principles: the principle of impermanence, imperfection and incompleteness. Using these three ideas, particularly in relation to the concept of self / body, home and community, the work explores what it means to repair, heal and rebuild. “Is healing inevitably intertwined with being broken? Aren't we more curious to be incomplete, and more beautiful to be impermanent? We admire resilience, but resilience cannot exist without difficulties. "

It is as if a film were played in slow motion and time-lapse. From a photo on the wall, suddenly, a hand to the beholder. Mirrors distort the size of bodies .... one is fascinated by the delicate worlds of art full of poetry and fear. "

The fusion of musical styles is surprisingly plausible. Here the ideal world that has developed is full of beauty and delicacy, because the eruption of a brutal reality that upsets and tears the bodies to pieces. Nostalgia for touch remains in vain ... "

2019

La Giara, project by Roberto Zappalà and his company, premiered on the stage of the Teatro Regio in Turin: the creation, in a single act, is freely inspired by the homonymous novel by Luigi Pirandello. The show features eleven male performers, on a musical score by Alfredo Casella, played live by orchestra and tenor of the Teatro Regio of Torino,
themes , the Sicilian territory, contradictions, interpersonal conflicts. Fascinating journey around rural gestures where tradition and contemporaneity crossed and combined to create a fresco of Sicily. We met and embraced Etna, Pinocchio, the Whale, the woman, her belly, and the welcome.

Nicht Schlafen - Alain Platel

2018-2016

A group of men gathers around some dead horses to perform a ritual. Summarized in one sentence like this, "nicht schlafen" might retain the semblance of a story. But everything instantly contradicts this notion. The area of the archaic cult is bounded by a giant blanket. And amongst the men there is one woman. Is this the staging of a new Rite of Spring? Will a woman be sacrificed once more to atone for failing masculinity?
